Humanity prevails!!!

Devastation. Catastrophic. Dreadful. Those who had been in Chennai over the fortnight would have understood what it really means. It seemed like a wily curse spelled on the city that's a perfect host to everyone, every-time. Not "வந்தாரை வாழவைக்கும் சென்னை" for no reason.

The city was found wanting all of a sudden. It dint take much time though, for people to respond. When all hopes seemed lost, Humans stood for humans. Risking neck deep water to save fellowmen.  Letting in complete strangers for shelter. Handing out whatever food they had to others. Joining hands for rescue. Everyone were friends. Everyone were heroes. Money dint matter. Not knowing people dint. Lives did.  Chennaiites went all in to save their city from drowning and their people from losing hope. Neighboring states joined hands. Indian army did their bit. So did every Indian. Humanity prevailed over nature's worst assault in over a century.

One disaster brought us all together. Erased all the differences. Differences that never really existed. They say people standing for people goes a long way in promoting humanity. It certainly did. Chennai lives another day. Chennaiites live on.

Those of you who want to do their bit in support for Chennai. Please do it here.

Hats off to all those NGOs and people who have been extending their support by all means

Chennai bounces back.. stronger than ever!!!

Nature has its way of setting things right. Be it paving way for its water source that has been disturbed by man or restoring humanity. It does both.

Chennai has been flayed with heavy rain over the last month recording over 50 inches of rain which is a new high in a century. With lakes and dams at over 90% of its capacity, risk of flood was always on the cards.

Low lying areas were worst hit. Neck deep water led to causalities and huge monetary loss for the city. People were left stranded for help and basic needs. Flooded roads and risk of cyclones suspended manufacturing and services. Chennai known for its prime lead in automobiles and IT is estimated to have incurred a loss of over 15000 crores due to this.

In all these, Chennaiites came out of their way in lending a helping hand. Distributing blankets, clothes, water, food and volunteering for rescue. Raising funds and what not. Being there when needed. Putting off all those claims of humanity being lost. Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jains, It never mattered. All that mattered were lives and it was heartening to see the way people helped people. Immediate relief was in place. The community held up really well and spirit of Chennai came out for everyone to see. Humanity restored.

Now its up to the government to put in place rehabilitation efforts and ensure proper disaster management in future.

Hopefully everybody stays strong and pull it off together and help Chennai restore normalcy soon.

Praying for one and all.

Love found and lies within!!

Some days our bond was strong, some days heartrending and some days stagnant. I was not sure if I was in love with her or the idea of just being in love. This new, passionate and compelling love had no witness. Strangely we ourselves didn't confess it. All of a fortnight's bond that is. Sounds cramped for such a relationship to flourish I know but still there was this sweet chemistry between us like no other. Like they say it just takes little to fall in love. I did when I knew her better.
I failed to make her understand that it wasn't being right or wrong; it was about how we felt about each other. It was to accept the fact that there was something special which was beyond our control. I wanted to experience this love, to get married to her and tell the world how happy I would be with her by my side.
It was meant to be a fairytale for all we liked. But as fate would have it, an eventful night and an unfortunate conversation. Misunderstanding, or whatever, it was a fault of mine to make her think I let her down. And the girl who she is, I know she isn't going to get back to how we were earlier. But I have a slight hope that she will as I know for sure she likes me too. I'm missing her already. She wouldn't respond to me. My heart skips a beat whenever I hear a ping on my mobile just hoping it would be from her but not so. Not yet.
But I'm still hopeful.

Common Grooming Questions for Men!!!

Grooming has become such an important part of our lives simply because men now have become more aware and actually want to look good. A conscious effort is made towards daily grooming habits which earlier weren’t a great part of the daily routine. So many grooming tips all over the internet but still a lot of common grooming questions are still unanswered for many Indian men.
We sorted out a list of common areas and questions which men wanted a solution for. So here are the answers to your questions guys!

1. Is there a way I can prevent dark circles?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

After researching and personally using most products for dark circles, the only remedy to this issue would be Enough Sleep and a few selected eye creams. Ordinary eye creams will take time to get rid of dark circles but special eye creams have been designed for men having light reflecting particles, a technology borrowed from women’s cosmetic products. Trust us, this works wonders!

2. How do I solve the constant problem of pimples?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

First of all, do not even dare to pick the pimples or else you might end up having a permanent scar on that particular area. Using a face wash which has Salicylic Acid in it will help you avoid or get rid of pimples. It has acne fighting ingredients which helps clear pores.

3. Which is the best place to apply fragrance?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

If you were made to believe that applying fragrance on your wrist or behind the ears for long lasting fragrance, it doesn’t stand true at all. The problem is these areas are warm and exposed to the air so the fragrance dissipates quickly. The best part would be the Chest because the fragrance stays between your clothes and body helping the fragrance to last long.

4. What is the best way to shave your balls?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

No wants to talk about this but everyone wants to know about it. This is most common topic which Indian men are clueless about. It is advised that you should Trim the hair back first with a trimmer which makes shaving easier. Splash with cold water to tighten the balls post trimming. Apply a shaving cream and shave exactly as you would on your face.

5. How many times should I shampoo my hair?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

Shampooing your hair Twice a week is an appropriate time. If you work out on a daily basis then maybe twice would be a bad idea. Go about washing thrice a week in that case. Conditioning is a very important part of shampooing which should not be avoided for oily and curly hair.

6. What is the best way to prevent razor burn?

Here’s The Answer To Your Most Common Grooming Questions

The main cause of razor burn is not the razor or the shaving cream but actually the technique of shaving.  We often use long, fast sweeping stokes applied with enough pressure to remove several layers of the skin which is why the skin sees red at times. To avoid burns, Shave in the direction of hair growth.

Getting everyone to recycle waste

Vani Murthy is trying to get 10 lakh citizens to take a pledge to not send any organic waste to dump yards for a week but compost it instead

Trying to understand means to involve the community in recycling plastic and paper took her to a landfill. The visit to the landfill on the city’s outskirts had such an impact that Vani Murthy decided then and there to not send any waste from her house to the landfill. Thus began her journey with promoting segregation of waste and composting.
The 54-year-old resident of Malleswaram is now trying to get 10 lakh citizens in the city to take a pledge to not send any organic waste to the dump yards for a week and compost instead. The project — Swachagraha — will be launched next month.
The project is being promoted by the Solid Waste Management Round Table, of which Ms. Murthy has been part of since 2008.
“The idea of the project is to get people to realise that it is not difficult and that it is an easy way to bring about a big change,” she said, and added that all those who take a pledge are given a simple kit.
There are many reasons for not segregating waste and composting at home that range from bad smell to lack of time. But there are two reasons why everybody should do it, she said. “Firstly, composting at home gives one the opportunity to grow vegetables and bring back healthy food on the dinner table. And secondly, it makes one respect the environment, which is a great thing for the future of the planet,” she explained.
Irrespective of the space available, everybody can take up composting at home. Just segregating waste and composting for week is enough for people to realise that it can become a lifelong process.
“There is nothing more fulfilling than growing your own vegetables and knowing that you are not adding to the garbage that is polluting some place. It has been a very fulfilling and fun journey. With more people signing up for the Swachagraha project, hopefully Bengaluru will become a model for other cities,” Ms. Murthy added.
Projects she was involved with:
1. Cleaning up of the voters’ list for one booth in Malleswaram, which resulted in high voter turnout in 2007
2. Was part of Bala Janaagraha where in schoolchildren were taught about importance of civic participation
3. Member of the Solid Waste Management Round Table since 2008; and promotes composting and urban farming
Suggestions for the government/BBMP:
1. Enforce segregation of waste at source
2. Bring in a uniform system for collection of waste and scientific disposal
3. Ensure that dry waste doesn’t leave the ward and reach the landfill
Suggestions for citizens:
1. Understand that landfills are not the solution
2. It is our duty to segregate the waste that we generate
3. Bring health back to your family by starting to compost organic waste at home and growing your own vegetables

"WiFi Trash Bin"

Realising the need of the Internet in everyday life, two commerce graduates decided to give free WiFi to people in exchange of a cleaner surrounding with an unique initiative -- a 'WiFi Trash Bin'.

"When somebody dumps trash into a dustbin the bin flashes a unique code, which can be used to gain access to free WiFi, says Prateek Agarwal, one of the two founders of the initiative.

Mumbai-based Agarwal and his partner Raj Desai, a self taught programmer, travelled extensively to countries like Denmark, Finland, Singapore etc and realised that keeping surroundings clean needed apart from a difference in structure, a change in the attitude of people.
"We took a lot of help from countries like Finland, Denmark, Singapore etc and decided to build a system similar to that," says Prateek Agarwal.

The duo hit upon the idea while visiting the NH7 Weekender a music festival which is spread around a large area and as music festivals go is home to music food drinks and of course a lot of garbage.
" ...It took us six hours to find our friends. Since there was no network, we could not reach them through a phone call.

It was the trigger for the idea and we thought why not provide free WiFi to people using hotspots," says Mr Agarwal.

Keeping the place clean and helping to connect with their friends were the driving force behind their innovative project.

The self-funded experiment with support from operator MTS proved to be a success at the various Weekender Festivals held in Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi but is not operative at the moment.

The founders say they have received queries from GAIL and talks are in due process.

"We wanted to change the attitude of the people and how things are structured, thus affecting an individual's behaviour," says Raj Desai.

The venture, though not operative now aims to satisfy the need of Internet at every step in the modern day world.

"... We want to work more for it," says Mr Agarwal.

The duo say they tend to setup a network of WiFi bins thus helping to bring about a behaviourial redesign among people.

The venture was recently showcased at "Networked India", a unique initiative by Ericsson and CNN-IBN that aims to identify and facilitate clutter-breaking innovations in the field of connectivity and mobility.

More women watching online porn in India!

When it comes to watching porn online, women are slowly bridging the gap in India with as much as 30 percent of women in India now regularly visiting porn websites, says a new study.

Last year, 26 percent Indian women were online searching for porn.

While lesbian porn was found to be the runaway hit among women, women across the globe are also watching more "hardcore" acts than men, revealed the study done by popular general interest website Pornhub in collaboration with New York-based news website, The Daily Beast.

The data came from nearly 40 million Pornhub users.

Compared to the worldwide average of 24 percent female porn viewers -- an increase of one percent over the previous year, the Philippines and Brazil took the lead with 35 percent female viewers.

India and Argentina came in a close second with 30 percent female porn viewers.

Using high-tech analytics software, the study revealed that women are also more selective than men when it comes to online porn viewing.

"Women are spending more time watching porn - a worldwide average of 10 minutes and 10 seconds compared to men at just nine minutes and 22 seconds," the results showed.

Japan presented the largest proportional gap between male and female porn viewers (83 percent male and 17 percent female).

Women in the US ranked pretty low (23 percent women and 77 percent male).

Nearly 24 percent of women in France visit online porn websites regularly.

Earlier, global research firm Pew Research Centre in 2013 surveyed the online viewing habits of 1,003 Americans and found that 25 percent of men admitted to watching porn in comparison to eight percent of women.

The People's President!!

The missile man. A visionary leader. A role model for so many,  and a person with an indomitable spirit.

He who taught us to dream big. He who inspired the Indian youth. He who let out his last breath inspiring young ones at IIM. Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has lived life spreading knowledge and harmony leaving an ever lasting impact. Born in South. Galvanized in West. Leading us from North. And finally leaving us from East.

It's hard to believe if there would ever be a symbol of hope like he was. One of the most inspiring human being, a cult figure is no more. As PM Modi has said, Bharat has lost its Ratna. However, his inspiration and words of wisdom will remain with us forever.

Our grandfathers would have felt proud in saying they lived in the era of Vallabhbhai Patel. Now we can certainly take pride in saying our grandchildren that we lived in the era of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The ever humble genius who made the whole India proud. Sir, you will live in our hearts and every human invention.

“If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.” - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

The angels onboard!!!

What was once a dream job for women, being an air hostess today is far from wonderful.

People normally think air hostesses must be easy but they do have strict codes of conduct. They are primarily on board an aircraft for the safety and welfare of the passengers and secondly for their comfort. The role of cabin crew can be physically demanding and is in fact more stressful.

They are usually approachable and enthusiastic with a good sense of self-presentation. They show the passengers to their seats and help them with their baggage. They respond to medical emergencies the way a doctor does. They do all these with a ever glowing smile on their face. They are apparently the face of the airline as you can call it.

Mostly flight attendants have too many straight flights with just little time for turnaround. So it makes their job even more demanding than we all think it is. Female flight attendants encounter many difficult situations - sexual harassment by passengers being the worse.

And their long list of duties can look exhausting if we knew about.
Starting from having to attend a pre-flight briefing, where they get assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight;
- carrying out pre-flight duties which includes checking safety equipment and ensuring a clean and tidy cabin;
- to welcoming passengers on board;
- informing them of the aircraft safety procedures;
- checking all passenger seat belts and galleys are secure prior to rake-off;
- making announcements on behalf of the pilot and answering to passenger queries;
- serving meals and refreshments;
- reassuring passengers and ensuring that they follow safety procedures correctly in emergency situations;
- responding to medical emergencies and
- to finally completing paperwork, including writing a flight report, the duties are by far tiring. Yet they do it all with a smile.

These are just a glance at the life of air hostesses on board. They do have life away form their job like we all do. And we need to respect the fact that they are humans too and deserve to be treated well and not taken for granted.

The ingenious Epic!!

It was with a mere household fly that he won our hearts. "Naan Ee" was an instant hit across regions and he had a built a strong reputation for himself. Director SS Rajamouli has pulled off something even more spectacular this time with Bahubali (meaning "the One with strong arms"), which is the first of a two-part tale. He has done what he normally does best - giving us an epic by skillfully blending all requisites at just enough proportions. Two things to be noted here - One, he's made a film that actually gets better after intermission. Two, he's given us a totally new epic -  a benchmark of sorts. The CGI landscape, like the waterfalls coming out of a 3D map in the beginning and the rather magnificent Mahishmati empire, are just awesome.

We can only be awe-struck by Rajamouli's ambition, audacity and ever expanding imagination. It is but a wonder how he understands the science of extremes and transforms it into a picture. And more so makes it reach masses and critics alike. Like everyone I was also looking forward to Bahubali-The Beginning, said to be the most costliest Indian film so far. As it turns out, it is everything I expected it to be - mega, ingenious and complete class. There's never a dull moment in this epic fantasy about a lost prince, rebellion, revenge, rivalry and a shocking betrayal to seize the throne. The geography and era specified is entirely fictional. The inspired architecture, the conception of a brand new language ‘Kiliki’ spoken by a wild tribe, and not to forget the music (which in fact carries the movie forward with purpose) are all magical.

Almost three hours go like a breeze in the company of the protagonists, where every single one makes an 'entry' designed for wolf-whistles. Not just entry, an exit has an equal level of applause - when the hero beheads the villainous prince. Bahubali-The Beginning isn’t quite finished; though it concludes on a delightfully suspense note. The rest of the epic fantasy is scheduled for release in 2016. Films that end on a cliffhanger note are usually frustrating. Bahubali isn't.

The first part of the epic leaves behind rip-roaring entertainment to relish till it’s back to finish what it started in perhaps an even more jaw-dropping manner.

As a tweet went about...
"If you have Troy, we have Bahubali. If you have Cameroon, we have Rajamouli."

Rajamouli incites such confidence. Take a bow sir!!

Box office - Set to cross 400 crores while I'm writing this!!

One teacher. Thousands of students.

She wanted to do PhD and become a teacher, but after her father's death, she had to take up a job in an MNC. However, Roshni Mukherjee found a way to teach tens of thousands of school students for free.

She launched Examfear.com to post video lessons for classes 9 to 12, and her YouTube channel has more than 68,000 subscribers. She has shared around 3,700 videos in the past four years, which means more than two video les sons posted per day .

"It began when my maid told me her two children kept failing in their exams be cause teachers in the government school in Tamil Nadu, where they studied, would rarely come to class. These were the children I wanted to reach out to," she said.

As technology offered the best solution, she uploaded a video on YouTube, explain PY ing the physics concept of motion. She used a Powerpoint slideshow and a microphone to explain the concepts. As there was a good response, she started posting more video lessons.

"After seeing the videos, students started asking doubts in the comments section and also requested for video lessons on specific topics. I was happy to help," she said. She spent a few hours on weekdays and all her weekends preparing the videos lessons in chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology .

She initially prepared videos for classes 11 and 12, but soon expanded to classes 9 and 10. "I refer CBSE syllabus and brush through ICSE syllabus to add any points I may have missed out. The videos are simple: made on Powerpoint (slide shows) with a voice in the background explaining the concepts," she said.

About eight months ago, Roshni quit her job with HP (which she had joined in the meantime) to focus on video lessons. "The channel was starting to make a little money from Google ads and I added a contribute button for those who wished to do so. I plan to keep the videos entirely free because only then can I reach a lot more students," she said.

Now, Roshni wants her videos to reach the remotest corners of the country. For this, she has to translate the videos into regional languages.

"That is the next course of action -making these videos into regional languages such as Kannada, Tamil and Bengali," she said.

Over time, Roshni hopes to expand her classes to junior grades and also subjects such history and geography .

More Human. Less Being. Donate!!!

Often we all intend to do, what we can for social causes that catch our attention but seldom we end up doing something. Donations need not be a forced habit. Just little things can work wonders when it comes to donating.

Turn Loose Change into Charitable Donations.

Maintain a pot to collect your loose coins every month and donate the sum on month ends. as they say, doing little can change a Lot.

Go on a Volunteer Pay Policy while you party.

Every time you set out to party with your friends, make it a point to have a contribution from each one of you and turn the sum to your donating list.

Start buying awareness branded items.

We can surely buy items of our needs with one such item adding value to a social cause. ITC books donate Re.1 for every book you buy on child education. Find similar value products while buying. Even movie tickets come with such options. A mere 2 rupees can help bring a smile on someone's face out there.

Go for a run, Walk, or bike ride.

Exercise is good for you, and it turns out your movement could also be good for charity.
There are many more ways you can give back without donating lots of money or spending too much time. Just your willingness makes the difference.

Even Trash can be Cash.

Why dump your house with trash when someone can help turn that to useful cash for needy.
Paperman.in does just that. Great initiative. Check it out http://paperman.in/
Let your home sweet home be just as sweet and clean as your heart :)

Giving Something back to society!!

"But mom, I don't want to go to school!'. These are the words that are heard all too often around the globe. Why sit in a classroom learning things when you could be out frolicking around in the outdoors? And not everyone is lucky enough to be affording school at early age. Poverty they say is a nation's curse.

It is a fact that early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Learning capabilities of humans continue for the rest of their lives, but not at the intensity that is demonstrated in the preschool years. Studies suggests that growth of mental and physical abilities progress at an astounding rate and a very high proportion of learning takes place from birth to age six. This is exactly the reason why children need high quality personal care and learning experiences.

Education is about far more than the marks you receive. It’s about understanding right from wrong and having the knowledge to stay afloat in today’s society. It helps to develop your perspective on the world around you and pushes you to think both creatively and conceptually. It allows us to process information and make conclusions and inferences based on what we already know. And for a fact, it aids in career advancements more often than not.  Today's globalization and advancements in technology wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for furthering education. We may believe that, Education key to escape generational poverty.

Despite our willingness to come forward and help a lending hand to the needy, there are always excuses that tend to keep the needy at bay. Helping in whatever way we can is great. Even if it means just spreading word on people doing good so it reaches the concerned. Here I am sharing something I recently came across while listening to BIG FM.

Maatram Foundation seems to be doing its share on making education affordable to all.

maatramfoundation@yahoo.co.in

Let's spread the word. Let's help society come out of generational poverty!!

Dispute it was.

Sunday, 17th May 2015. RCB taking on DD. Quinton de Kock and Shreyas Iyer at their best. Up came continuous beeps on my mobile. Normally, while glued to an IPL match most of us would not care to look into the mobile right away but the 4 straight beeps made me take a look. Shock it was.

Notification was about 4 transactions amounting to a total of Rs.20450/- which I had not authorized or knew nothing about. Stated "Debit Card Purchase" on E-Vector & Mobikwik. I quickly logged on to my net banking account only to find that my balance was reduced to a mere Rs.93/-.

I had to call the customer care immediately (but as you know it a a big pain waiting to get the staff on line with the long IVR process). Finally ended up speaking to one and managed to block my debit card and net banking facilities.

18th May -  Lodged a formal complaint with local police and got a CSR. Community Service Register is more of an FIR but just that FIR are for Cognizable offence and CSR are for those which aren't.

19th May - Handed over a copy of CSR with another complaint to Cyber Crime Cell,

22nd May - Got a response from ICICI stating that they are having things inquired and will let me know the status soon enough.

Still to hear on the status while im writing this. I was told by the cyber cell that CArd skimming at ATM could be a possibility. So beware!!
Precautions that's worth:

1. Do not click on URLs given by strangers online for payment
2. Avoid clicking suspect pop-ups notifying discounts of any means
3. Always make sure that the Pay Desk you use for payment is genuine (double check never hurts)
4. Do not save card details in any website for future transactions (not even for Flipkart, Bookmyshow and its likes)
5. Make sure to use your debit card at regular ATM outlets (avoid trying different ones which you have not used earlier)
6. Make sure to use your Credit card in DIP machine against a Swipe machine (chip enabled card are to be used in DIP so as to authorize transaction) but then I was not asked for PIN even in DIP machine few times. Strange!

World Cup glory beckons!!!

And the world cup season is nearing its business end. it is only fitting that the world's current top teams are set to battle it out for the glory. Between New Zealand and South Africa, they have been in 9 semi-finals and haven't won a game yet. Whereas both India and Australia have tasted success at highest levels more than any other teams ever have and find themselves in familiar territory with crunch games. so it all comes down to the cliché- "who can hold the nerves and play well that day".

Interesting contests can’t be overseen here. 2 typically attacking captains and probably the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket - Mccullum and de villiers would steam it out to make it to their first final in cwc. Insane swing of boult vs breath-taking stroke play of de villiers. The fury of Steyn vs the audacity of Mccullum. The canny spin of Vettori vs the might of millers and duminys. It’s really gonna be worth the prices for the audiences.

And then, there are 2 composed captains who have their own subtle way of bringing in a calmness into their teams, fight it out to see who comes out on top. yet again. MSD vs Clarke. Rohit & dhawan against Starc & co. Shami vs Warner. Verbal duels and heated battles on field. Can't get any better these 2 semis. Recent records certainly weigh in favour of the Aussies but India's new found energy and rhythm could hurt Clarke's men. Heart says India. But would definitely want to see either of NZ or SA lift the trophy for its time they did with the talents they possess and I certainly love both de villliers and Baz. Hopefully nature doesn't throw its bad spell against SA again. Lets keep our fingers crossed and wait for a week’s time to know who its gonna be!!
